pelviclgCoccydynia is pain around the area of the coccyx, which is also known as the tailbone. Some causes of coccydynia are too much movement of the tailbone, infection, tumor, fracture, or trauma. Symptoms of coccydynia include pain while sitting or laying, pain during bowel movements, or pain during sex. Coccydynia can be diagnosed with use of an x-ray in most cases. We have an x-ray machine located at our Grapevine location if an x-ray is necessary. You should tell the doctor of any recent injuries that may be the cause. CT scans, MRI, or bone scans also may help diagnose coccydynia. We also have all of this diagnostic equipment located at our Grapevine location. Non-inflammatory drugs may be given to reduce the pain. An on-site injection may also be administered to immediately relieve the pain. A donut –like seat may also be used for relief while sitting. coccydynia can take a damaging toll on ones day-to-day life. The person with coccydynia may also begin to feel isolated if they remain inside due to the agonizing pain. Things such as these may later lead to depression. coccydynia may also be a leading cause of lack of sleep. While the victim of the pain is experiencing the agonizing feeling of discomfort, sleep may be the first thing to go. It is wise to get the help necessary to treat the pain as soon as it arises in order to break free from the symptoms they may cause such as those just discussed. If you have coccydynia and have any questions about how we can help, please feel free to give our friendly scheduling coordinators a call. Once scheduled, if you have had a recent MRI, CT, X-Ray, bone scan, or ultrasound of the area causing the pain and would like us to review the films, please remember to bring the films or CD to your appointment. It you have not had an MRI, CT, X-Ray, bone scan, or ultrasound done and your physician feels it is necessary, we have equipment available at some of our many locations. Ask for details if a MRI, CT, X-Ray, bone scan, or ultrasound will be necessary for your coccydynia treatment. They are specialized and trained to get you in with one of the board certified pain management physicians that can best be equipped to suit your needs. They can also help with any insurance questions you may have that can help you make your decision to managing your pain. We can help figure out deductible questions, co payment questions, or any general questions in regards to insurance, or self pay. We are happy to help you in any way. It is our goal to help you get to feel like yourself again.
