treatment neuropathy2Diabetic neuropathy affects ones that have diabetes and is a type of nerve damage. While high blood pressure affects the nerves through out the entire body, diabetic neuropathy usually affects the nerves in the legs and feet. Symptoms of diabetic neuropathy can be seen in the digestive system, urinary tract, heart and blood vessels. The pain associated with diabetic neuropathy can be very painful to some, but to others may be a faint feeling of pain. Diabetic neuropathy is common with those who have diabetes. It can be prevented in most cases if the person with diabetes maintains a healthy diet and lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle can include lots of exercise; even a brisk walk everyday can be very beneficial to the health of one with diabetes. Eating healthy can include obtaining a variety amount of fruits and vegetables, whole wheat, and high amounts of protein. Also try to keep your blood pressure under control. Be sure to check your blood pressure in routine office visits or try obtaining an at-home testing kit to ensure that your blood pressure is under control. There are several causes of diabetic neuropathy such as having high blood pressure for a long period of time, which in end damages the nerves; high blood glucose also can have an affect on the nerves. Other causes of diabetic neuropathy include genetic factors, inflammation of the nerves, alcohol abuse, and smoking abuse. If you need help with alcohol or smoke abuse there are many programs available to one experiencing a dependency. Ask your doctor which one would best be suited for you. Diabetic neuropathy can take a damaging toll on ones day-to-day life. The person with diabetic neuropathy may also begin to feel isolated if they remain inside due to the agonizing pain. Things such as these may later lead to depression. Diabetic neuropathy may also be a leading cause of lack of sleep. While the victim of the pain is experiencing the agonizing feeling of discomfort, sleep may be the first thing to go. It is wise to get the help necessary to treat the pain as soon as it arises in order to break free from the symptoms they may cause such as those just discussed.
